Adapting Games – Pictionary for lexical chunks

A great twist on Pictionary. My favourite classroom game!

However this adaptation seeks to go further, and allows for freer practice of lexical chunks in an extended form of the game. It aims to create memorable sentences and images to help students remember and accurately use new phrases. It can be used with groups of any level or age.

This game is played in pairs and for each pair you’ll need a sheet of A4 paper and 8 slips of paper (big enough for a sentence). I usually find some scrap paper in the staffroom and make more than enough with a few swipes of the guillotine.

Beautiful Illustrations of Words with No English Equivalent

Love this!

TwistedSifter

Artist Marija Tiurina has illustrated a beautiful series of posters that visually describe words from other languages that do not have an English equivalent. The series was created exclusively for NeonMob, a new social network for collecting, trading and selling digital art.

Tiurina has an incredible drawing style and I highly recommend you check out her fantastic work on Facebook and Behance. If you see anything you like, you can grab prints through her Society6 store front.

Is It Summer Yet?

Hungry baby!

Hungry baby!

Well, the temperature has shot up! Now that May has arrived, I think summer has, too! While I’m not complaining, the heat signals the end of a fertile campo. Slowly but perceptively, the greenness is giving way to aridity.

So, I thought I would say goodbye to spring for another year by sharing some more pictures of our local spring landscape!

And the heat has brought out the snakes!

Welcome Summer!
